 English, you have to say!

Dialogue:

Client: Can you effect shipment during October?
Lily: I don’t think we can make it.
Client: Then when at the earliest can we expect the shipment?
Lily: By the middle of November.
Client: It’s too late. You see, in our market November is the season for the kind of commodity. So the goods must be shipped before November or we won’t be ready for the season.
Lily: Well, considering our long standing good business relationship, we’ll try hard to negotiate with our manufacturers for an earlier delivery.
Client: Thanks. Then may I suggest that you put down in the contract “shipment on October 15 or earlier”?
Lily: Let me see. Now the workers will have to work on three shifts for it. Well, we can manage it on 20th October. That’s the best we can do.
Client: Oh, that’s very considerate of you. I’ll take your word for it.

Notes:
at the earliest:最早

The First Thanksgiving was Celebrated in Virginia

The first Thanksgiving(感恩节) occurred when Captain(船长) John Woodlief led the newly arrived English colonists(殖民移民) to a grassy slope(草坡) along the James River and instructed(指示) them to drop to their knees(跪下) and pray(祈求) in thanks for a safe arrival to the New World.

On this day, Dec. 4, 1619, these 38 men from Berkeley Parish in England were given the instructions(命令):

"Wee ordaine that the day of our ships arrivall at the place assigned for plantacon in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually keept holy as a day of Thanksgiving to Almighty God."

This saying is now carved(刻) on a brick gazebo(露台), where it is believed that Woodlief knelt down(跪下) beside the James River.

She married what’s-his-name, the guy from Australia.
